Top 20 Interesting Facts About Aircraft

Some Interesting Facts About Aircraft

1.The engines of boeing 777 have a diameter that is the fuselage diameter of Boeing 737
2.If the engine stops, the helicopter's rotors continues to spin, allowing the machine to land slowly, generally without crashing to the ground.
3.The helicopter is only aircraft that has save more lives than it has lost.
4. The concorde burns about 500 lb of fuel per passenger per hour. The Boeing 777 burns only about 40 lb per passenger seat per hour.

5. The Boeing B-314 flying boats were so large that there was a catwalk in the wings so that mechanics could service the engines in flight.

6. The projected lifetime of a commercial airplane design is 70 years.

7. In 1991 the very first Boeing 727, the spirit of Seattle, was retired after 64,492 flight hours, which is equivalent to 7.4 years in the air.
8. The wright brothers' first engine produced 12 hp and weighed 180 lb. Modern aircraft piston engines weigh approximately 2 lb/hp.

9. To remain stable, the flight control system on the X-29 has to make 40 corrections per second.

10. For a typical international flight, one Boeing 747 operator uses no fewer than 5.5 tons of food and more than 50000 in flight service items.

  • 11. During Gulf war, U.S airplane loss rates were roughly the same as during normal training.
World War 1 Fighter Aircraft

  • 12. The radial engines in first world war fighter planes actually rotated with the propeller.
13. An average pilot can withstand a force of about 6g for a few seconds without blacking out.
14. In 1997, the pathfinder set an altitude record for a propeller driven airplane of 71,490 ft.
15. A commercial jet can glide for about 160 km if it loses its engine at crushing altitude.

Boeing X-51 Hypersonic Fighter Jet

Boeing New X-51 Hyper sonic Fighters Jets

X-51 Under Test  Flight
Boeing X-51 This fighter jet is designed to fly at very high speed. It compled its first flight on 26may 2010. Although it may take another 10 years to fly for airforce. The aircraft aerodynamic design and a rocket booster makes it possible to fly at 6400 kmp. By having such a huge speed it can travel very long distance with least time possible. For example, just to cross the atlantic ocean a ship usually takes 3 to 4 days of time, Where Waverider can cross the atlantic ocean in less than one hour. The wave rider can fly at Mach 6 speed for 300 seconds, which is just enough to send it anywhere within a radius of 450 km. The plane named waverider because it ride on its own shockwave produce by it. For propulsion system X-51 uses a solid rocket booster which helps it accelerates suddenly from zero.

The Boeing x-51 project is a combined efforts of United state air force(USAF), DARPA, NASA, Boeing and Pratt's Whitney rocketdyne. Flight test: The first flight test was successfully conducted on 26 may,2010. Hyper sonic flight time was 200 seconds and 140 seconds with its scram jet power.

The Upcoming see through passenger plane from Airbus

The famous European manufacturing company has designed this new concept plane. The aircraft is designed to give a luxurious and comfortable air journey. The plane offering an open sky view from the passenger seat. The structure of this plane is made by following a birds bone structure.
All the cabin wall is made up of transparent glass which will give a beautiful scenery of the outside. The aircraft cabin wall can change according to the lighting condition inside the aircraft. The passenger body's heat can be absorbed through the wall and it can be utilized to power the different system. The cabin wall membrane controls air temperature. The seat will be auto morph to provide full comfort for the passenger body shape.
